Rule: Crushing Blows

Replaces: Add-on to standard combat rules

Used In: Red Star Chronicles

Synopsis: Particularly successful attacks deal extra damage

Crushing Blows[]

Whenever a player makes an attack that exceeds the target's AC by 10 or more, he has scored a crushing blow. Crushing blows deal 1.5x normal damage. Extra damage from precision-based attacks is not increased.

This extra damage stacks normally with critical hits (i.e. additively; a x2 crit that is also a crushing blow deals 2.5x damage). Creatures that are immune to critical hits are not immune to crushing blows. Note that a roll of a 20, while being an automatic hit, only counts as a crushing blow if the actual attack result exceeds the target's AC by 10 or more.

Objects are immune to crushing blows.

Crushing Blows: Variant Rule[]

Whenever a player makes an attack that exceeds the target's AC by 10 or more, he has scored a crushing blow. A crushing blow deals additional damage, calculated as follows:

Attack roll - Target AC - 10 = crushing damage

Crushing damage is not multiplied by a critical hit. Creatures that are immune to critical hits are not immune to crushing damage. Objects do not take crushing damage.
